Nipple Reduction
Nipple and areola ring size and shape differences are common. When these differences are noticeable and bothersome, reductions and revision procedures can balance the appearance. Nipple and areola revision procedures are typically performed at the same time as other breast surgeries, such as breast augmentation, reduction, or lift.

Your Consultation
Dr. Forouzanpour will carefully assess your concerns and goals, discuss your medical history, perform a physical examination, and answer your questions. He will explain the different surgical techniques, discuss the potential risks and benefits, and help you determine if this procedure is right for you.
The Ideal Candidate
Anyone who is not satisfied with the size, shape, and symmetry of their nipples and areola and who is in good health may be a candidate. Most clients are unhappy with the following:
- Elongated, long, and prominent appearance
- Overly prominent
- Asymmetrical shape
- Droopy shape
The Procedure
The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure in 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the extent of the reduction and whether other revisions, such as areola resizing, are performed simultaneously.
A portion of the skin is removed, and the height is reduced without disturbing the existing milk ducts and the nerve fibers, therefore not interfering with future breastfeeding and without sensation loss to the nipples.
Areola size is also reduced if needed at the same time to provide a more uniform and circular contour.
Recovery
Discomfort and bruising will last a few days, which can be easily controlled with oral medications. Scars are generally minimal and are often hidden at the base of the nipple. Over time, they fade and become less noticeable. Dr. Fardad uses advanced techniques to ensure the best cosmetic outcome.
- Most patients can return to work within 1-2 days
- Normal activities can be resumed within 3-4 days
- Workouts can be resumed in 7-10 days

Nipple & Areola Reduction: Frequently Asked Questions
Are the results permanent?
Yes, the results of nipple reduction are permanent. However, factors such as aging, weight fluctuations, or future pregnancies may affect the overall appearance of the breasts or nipples.
Will I lose sensation in my nipples?
Dr. Fardad carefully preserves the nerve endings in the nipple, so sensation loss is rare. Temporary numbness or tingling is normal during healing but usually resolves over time.
Can the procedure be combined with other surgeries?
Yes, nipple reduction is often performed in conjunction with other breast surgeries, such as augmentation, reduction, or lift, for a more comprehensive aesthetic result.
Am I a candidate if I’ve had previous breast surgery?
Yes, many patients who have had breast surgery (e.g., augmentation or reduction) can still undergo nipple reduction. Dr. Fardad will assess your medical history and surgical outcomes to determine the best approach.
Will I still be able to breastfeed after the procedure?
We understand how important this function is for our patients. If the milk ducts functioned properly before the surgery, you should still be able to breastfeed after the nipple reduction procedure.
Can men undergo nipple reduction surgery?
Yes, nipple reduction is also a common procedure for men who are unhappy with the size or prominence of their nipples.
What are the common side effects?
There may be temporary redness, tingling, numbness, or minor bruising for a few days. Although rare, there is a risk of damage to the nerves and milk ducts at the nipple, however, Dr. Fardad takes meticulous detail to preserve this function.
