Breast Procedures
Breast Reduction
Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure that reduces the size and weight of the breasts by removing excess breast tissue, fat, and skin. This can significantly improve comfort and alleviate physical discomfort associated with large breasts, such as back, neck, and shoulder pain and numbness in the hands. Breast reduction procedures will also improve self-esteem, and body image and allow for increased participation in physical activities.

Your Consultation
Dr. Forouzanpour will carefully assess your needs and goals, discuss your medical and family history, perform a physical examination, address your concerns, and answer your questions. Dr. Forouzanpour will explain and discuss the different surgical techniques, benefits, potential risks, and complications and determine if the procedure is right for you.
The Ideal Candidate
Ideal candidates for breast reduction are generally in good health, have realistic expectations for the procedure, and experience physical discomfort due to large breast size.
The Procedure
Breast reduction surgery is typically performed in an outpatient setting under general anesthesia. The techniques and incision patterns will vary depending on your breast’s size and shape.
Common incision patterns include:
- Around the areola (donut-lift): A circular incision around the areola (darkened area around the nipple).
- Anchor-shaped (inverted T): An incision around the areola extending vertically down to the breast crease and horizontally along the crease.
- Lollipop: An incision around the areola extending vertically to the breast crease.
Reshaping the breasts:
- The surgeon will remove excess and stretched skin, reposition the nipples and areola, and tighten the surrounding tissues to achieve the desired firmer shape and lift.
Recovery
Pain medication can help manage discomfort from the incisions and the pressure sensation. Wearing a supportive bra for several weeks will aid in healing, minimize swelling, and assist in maintaining the shape of the breasts. Dr. Forouzanpour will work closely with you to ensure proper recovery and provide specific post-operative instructions for the best possible outcome. These instructions may include:
- Avoiding strenuous and heavy physical activities for several weeks
- Proper incision and scar care
- Monitoring for any signs of potential complications
